Ph.: 707-542-7182
Dear Mrs. Woolsey:
My name is Anthony Amari, and I am a student at Windsor High School. The fact that I am only 15 years old I will not be able to vote in the upcoming elections. I am writing to you on the topic of the death penalty so I may have a voice in this situation.
I believe that the death penalty is flawed and wrong. Northwestern.edu says that about one out of nine people on death row are not guilty. This alone should be enough to get rid of the death penalty. As Bryan Stevenson put it “If one out of nine planes crashed after take off it would be unacceptable” so why is it okay when applied to a human life, and why hasn't this fact been taken into account? It is morally wrong to kill someone, and if the California believe that it is morally right to sentence a person to death for killing someone, then are we not being hypocritical? Morality is not the only contributing factor to this issue; deathpenaltyinfo.org stated that if we stopped using the death penalty there would be an immediate savings of $170 million per year. This money could be better spent on schools or on national parks rather than on trials and containment of prisoners on death row. The United States is in debt currently, and we should not be spending that money on prisoners.
If you have any comments or questions, you can reach me at my Email address Listed above.
Thank you Mrs. Woolsey for taking some of your time to listen to my comments and concerns.
Sincerely,
Anthony Amari
